He blinked his eyes, he saw that he was stuck in something.
He blinked a few more times, a hole?
He was stuck halfway in an open manhole! His arms and hands
were held over him, he squirmed his way out carefully. Tired, his whole body hurting, he crawled the
remaining of the way to the dimly lit street light. He put his back to street
light post, he took a moment to catch his breath. He took out the hourglass, he
saw that the top half of the sand was almost gone.
Meow
He looked up to see that straggly cat before him, with its
eyes now set on 4.
“4? Look, how much more of this? It’s just a toy, I’m just
practicing my skills! I’ll give it back tomorrow, I just want to prove to my
friends that luck good or bad does not exist!”
He shouted at the cat.
“Who are you talking to?”
Johnny turned his head, a woman approached him.
“Are you okay? You look terrible.”
She said, observing his clothing and badly bandage foot.
“I’m just trying to get home, but this cat has been stopping
me every step of the way.”
“What cat?” she asked.
“This cat”, Johnny pointed to the cat, when he saw that the
cat’s eyes changed to 3.
What? Why? It’s just a
woman. Johnny thought.
“You poor boy, let us help you home.”
Us?
The woman waved down a van that came from the darkness, as
the van approached the door open and a man came out. Johnny stared wide eyed
first at the van than at the cat, as its eyes turned to 2.
“Uh, no, no I’m alright, I can get home by myself.”
“Oh don’t be silly, you’re too hurt to move, let us help you
inside the van.” Said the woman.
“No! I’m fine! Let me be!” Johnny tried to struggle, but his
whole body ached with each struggle attempt he made. As the man and woman
fought to put him inside the van, he could see the cat’s eyes slowly turning to
one as the van door closed in front of him.
